Baghdad keen on establishing best ties with Iran: Iraqi FM

According to mofa.gov.iq, the Iraqi FM made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad-Hassan Sheikholeslami on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Turkey Thursday night.

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the two sides reviewed the political and security situation in the West Asia region as well as the pace of nuclear talks between Iran and the P4+1 group (Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany) and its positive outcome on peace and security in the region.
Hussein emphasized on the deep ties between Iraq and Iran based on interests of both nations, saying that the today's relationships of world countries are founded on joint interests, fight against common threats and consolidation of social ties among nations.
The Iraqi top diplomat and Iran's deputy FM also discussed the negative repercussions of current crisis between Russia and Ukraine on global economy as well as the need for enhancing joint efforts to confront existing challenges in order to guarantee stability and development in Iraq and Iran.
For his part, Sheikholeslami underlined that one of principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran's foreign policy is supporting Iraq in numerous fields and assisting reconstruction of cities of the war-torn neighboring country. 
Baghdad and Tehran have tried to consolidate mutual cooperation in different arenas in recent years following the downfall of the Baathist regime in Iraq.
The Iraqi foreign minister visited Tehran in December and held talks with some Iranian high-ranking officials such as President Ebrahim Raisi and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian, discussing ways to expand cooperation in different fields.
